Which prospecting KPIs to really track
· Strategy · 5 min
Prospecting dashboards often overflow with indicators that drive nothing. Tracking twenty metrics means steering none of them. The question is not to measure everything, but to measure what moves things forward. Here are the KPIs that really matter.
The four that drive results
Activity volume measures effort, the booking rate measures the quality of the approach, the show rate measures the quality of the prospect, and the conversion rate measures the quality of the sale. Together, they show exactly where the pipeline leaks.
To go further, our guide to B2B prospecting KPIs explains how to calculate and interpret them without drowning in them.
What to ignore
Vanity metrics - number of emails opened, likes, views - flatter the ego but do not drive revenue. They have their place in diagnosis, not in daily steering. Keep them off the team dashboard to preserve readability.
- Should you track by salesperson?
- Yes, to identify who needs help and who is performing, but carefully: raw comparison can push people to cheat on quality. Always cross volume with conversion rate.
- How often should you look at KPIs?
- Weekly for team steering, monthly for trends. Daily pushes you to react to noise rather than to solid signals.
