Lead quality or quantity: the false B2B debate

Magnifying glass over a document surrounded by company cards and a location pin

The quality versus quantity debate keeps coming back. Some want volume to fill the pipeline, others swear only by the ultra-qualified lead. In reality, both extremes lead to failure. Here is how to find the right balance.

The statistical minimum volume

Too few leads and the pipeline dies: one or two meetings a week are not enough to feed a team. You need a minimum volume for the law of large numbers to work and for conversions to become predictable rather than random.

But a volume of poorly qualified leads clogs the pipeline: lead qualification remains essential so salespeople are not worn out on dead leads.

Define the right threshold

The right balance is calculated from the revenue target and the observed conversion rate. If you convert one prospect in ten, you know how many qualified leads produce a sale. Starting from this goal, rather than an arbitrary number, avoids illusions.

Is it better to have 100 lukewarm leads or 10 hot ones?
Neither alone. Ten hot leads are not always enough, and a hundred lukewarm leads wear people out. Aim for a volume of qualified leads aligned with your revenue target.
How do you know if quality is dropping?
When the rate of meetings held falls or salespeople report leads with no budget or project. These signals should trigger a recalibration of the target, not a reduction in volume.

Quality and quantity are not opposed: they combine according to a numerical goal. At Mooniz, we calibrate volume on real quality. Discover our services →
