Cold call: the scripts that get meetings booked

Cold calling is often seen as the most difficult—and most dreaded—channel. Yet when done well, it’s also the most direct and the one that produces the fastest responses. The difference between a call that books a meeting and a call that ends with a hang-up: a clear structure and real listening skills.

1. The hook: the first 10 seconds are decisive

Never start with “I hope I’m not catching you at a bad time, I’m calling because…” This line is overused. Our winning hook: “Hello [First name], this is [Your first name] from Mooniz. I’m calling quickly because I work with companies like [industry reference] on [specific pain point]—do you have 2 minutes?” This approach is direct, respects your prospect’s time, and creates immediate context.

2. The discovery phase: asking the right questions

If the person agrees to continue, jump straight into discovery. The best questions are open-ended and focused on pain points: “How do you currently handle [pain point]?” and “What’s the biggest thing holding back your prospecting today?” The goal isn’t to pitch—it’s to understand whether you can help.

3. Objection handling

“I don’t have time” → “I understand—that’s exactly why I want to be brief. Would a 20-minute slot next week work better for you?” / “We already work with someone” → “Great, I’m not questioning that. My question is more this: are you getting the meeting volumes you’re aiming for?” The goal is to pivot with a question, not to defend.

4. The close: ask for the meeting directly

Never end a call without proposing a specific time slot. “Would you be available Tuesday morning or Thursday afternoon next week for a 20-minute conversation?” Offering a binary choice increases conversion rates compared to an open question like “When would you be available?”

Measurable results: cold calling with our clients

Into The Tribe: our team made 120 calls per session, 3 sessions per week, and generated an average of 3.5 qualified meetings per day. Over 4 months, that equals 63 meetings and 11 signed clients from €120,000 in revenue. The key factor: scripts prepared specifically for HR Directors and CEOs, with responses to the 3 most common objections identified in advance. Average connect rate on enriched direct numbers: 38%.

A good script isn’t a list of fixed lines—it’s a structure that guides the conversation toward a clear goal: getting a meeting. Practice, record your calls, iterate. Cold calling improves with experience.
